High Desert Opera works to keep it local

With each production High Desert Opera (HDO) efforts to use Western Slope resources. Our orchestra is filled with local musicians. Many are members of the Grand Junction Symphony. Scott Betts, a District 51 music teacher, is our conductor.

We seek to be an inclusive organization. Students from the Grand Junction Academy of Dance and the Institute of Dancing Arts have brought their enthusiasim to our productions. Vocalists from the Western Slope have performed in our productions for eight years. With guest performers from Maryland to California.

Mesa State College's Theatre Department works with our costumer to provide many of the costumes used in our productions. The summer production of "The Mikado" was filled with costumes designed and created by MSC's Heather Waggoner.

Our sets and props are designed by Marnie & James Werner. Many volunteers assist in the building process. It is often the details that that make a difference. The ambiance on stage is often completed by items lent to us from local business and individuals.

We effort to keep our funds circulating locally.
