Ticket Sales for New Year's Eve

We are hearing that everyone is excited about our performance of Rodgers & Hammerstein's "The Sound of Music."

Tickets sales for our New Year's Eve performance are going well. We have only a few tickets left in our $39 section. The best seats are selling fast.

It seems that the community members on the Western Slope are finding an alternative way to celebrate New Year's Eve!

Publicity crunch time!

It's coming down to the wire to get all the odds and ends together for publicity for our upcoming show. News paper ads and posters are at the top of the list. Then it's working on television.

Graphics decisions were made months ago. Now it's re-editing the information of copy where it's changed and getting it to the printer and publisher.

It's great to see our patron mailing list growing!

The last of the new address were added to our mailing list today. It's amazing how long it takes to compare names to the current list and then input the information. Next will be the email list. It is interesting to see how many patrons still prefer mail. It is pleasant to get positive pieces of mail in the mail box.

Going with the flow

It's uncanny how things seem to workout when you relax and go with the flow. Issues with graphics while ordering our postcards worked out for the best. During that time period HDO found it necessary to change its performance schedule. If the graphics would have worked we would have the wrong information on them. Serendipity... have to love it!

"The Sound of Music" is HDO's first all female chorus

The chorus has a large range of ages. There are teenagers to Great Grandmothers cast as Nuns, Novices & Postulants.

Chorus member in a HDO production learn their music on an honor system with rehearsals for an hour every Saturday starting about 4 months prior to the show. The rehearsal schedule becomes intense about two weeks prior to opening night.

HDO has found that this method works well for our chorus. It allows people with school and work schedules to be apart of our shows.

"The Sound of Music" is locally cast!

Our new Year's Eve production of "The Sound of Music" is creating a buzz. It is completely locally cast.

It seems that many in the community are excited about being part of the performance. Plus HDO is hearing that there is just as much excitement about attending the show as well.

HDO chose this production at the suggestion of it's patrons. It is a favorite Rogers & Hammerstein's musical.

What does it take to put on a production?

High Desert Opera begins its planning process about 6 months prior to the performance. Some of the first areas to be worked on are; music orchestrations are written to fit our smaller orchestra, graphic design concepts for all publicity pieces, set design and a costumer is chosen.

Meetings are scheduled to bring together each area to create a cohesive visual concept for set design and costume plot. These are the basics. There is so much more to do to bring the finished production to our audience.
